The hinterland town on the river's North Arm, with wide streets laid out for bullock teams and a 1920s main street the council calls one of its great assets. The valley's smallest housing market, and its youngest town.

Good for
- Space and a country-town feel, a short drive from the coast
- Families: the youngest town in the valley
Worth knowing
- A thin market: few homes sell in any one quarter
- The hospital and bigger shops are in Macksville and Nambucca Heads; Bowraville has a HealthOne centre
The theatre and the main street
The art deco Bowraville Theatre has just been upgraded by the council, with grant funding from the Australian and NSW governments' Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund: a ramp and a lift to the stage for people with limited mobility, and new electrical, sound and lighting. The Bowraville Arts Council reopened it with an album launch by Gumbaynggirr singer Emma Donovan in May 2026.
The council is now carrying out the first stage of the Bowraville Masterplan around the intersection of Belmore and High streets. Its survey on that precinct, security cameras near the town clock and a possible splash pad is open until 5pm on Monday 12 October 2026.
A short history
According to the council's history, Bowraville began on the Bowra River at the furthest navigable point of the Nambucca's North Arm, and was first called Bowra until it was renamed to avoid confusion with another town. The first bridge across the Nambucca was built here in 1888, and when Nambucca Shire was formed in 1915 its council met at Bowraville. High Street has the Bowraville Folk Museum and the Frank Partridge VC Military Museum, and the town centre is one of the valley's two heritage conservation areas.
